The Leclercs produce this Pinot Noir from fruit grown on 40-60 year-old vines at their tiny estate parcel only 0.4 hectares with limestone soils, pebbles and clay. The 2019 Clos Prieur is ripe yet elegant, with softening tannins that create a pleasing mouthfeel. This fine red Burgundy offers bold flavors reminiscent of both fresh and baked cherries, violets, and raspberries, all gliding along a firm mineral underpinning with aspects of fresh earth. The finish is smooth, substantial, and long. Outstanding accompaniment to roast duck. This estate produces its wines sustainably.

In recent years, René Leclerc has gradually passed on the winemaking and management of the domaine to his son, François, who seamlessly integrates new innovations while honoring the family's winemaking roots of tried and true methods. The domaine consists of 12 hectares in and around Gevrey-Chambertin, one of Burgundy’s finest sub-appellations. François has reduced yields, ferments only with indigenous yeasts in traditional vats, has eliminated new oak for up to 18 months in cellar, and has transitioned the estate to truly non-interventionalist approaches.
