Distiller's notes: Here at the edge of a lake in a shed in a small Irish town, the ordinary is made extraordinary. Within is the laboratory of PJ Rigney, boundary-pushing begetter of hand-made spirits who slow distills gin with natures finest oriental botanicals and gunpowder tea.
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is slow-distilled in a medieval copper pot still in Drumshanbo, Ireland. Eight botanicals (Juniper Berries, Angelica Root, Orris Root, Caraway Seed, Coriander Seed, Meadow Sweet, Cardamom, and Star Anise) are slow distilled by hand in the copper pot still. Four additional botanicals (Oriental Lemon, Oriental Lime, Fresh Grapefruit, and Gunpowder Tea) are vapor-infused in a vapor basket. The vapor rises through the unique shape of the medieval head, which allows maximum copper contact. This helps to clean and purify the spirit. The vapor exits the still and passes into the infusion basket, where it gently extracts the oils and aromas from the citrus and tea.
Nose: Bright citrus and Gunpowder tea are complimented with juniper and spicy notes coming to the fore.
Palate: Delightfully fresh and rounded up front with citrus, juniper & spice immediately evident. Gunpowder Tea, meadowsweet & coriander are all notable. The overall impression is of a very well balanced and surprising gin.
