Joe Heitz was one of Napa's original Great Cabernet producers. Family-owned since its founding in 1961, Heitz Cellar’s legacy runs as deep as the roots throughout the Napa Valley; a winery legend that has helped shape the history of Napa Valley winemaking. In the late 1950s, pioneering vintner Joe Heitz ushered in Napa’s modern era with his iconic, globally celebrated wines, including Napa Valley’s first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon, the renowned Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard. Fifty-eight years of the Heitz family’s dedication to viticulture, stewardship, and classic winemaking maintained the winery’s notoriety as a benchmark amongst its peers in California and Europe.

"In April 2018, Heitz Cellar entered an exciting new chapter as this rich legacy was passed into the hands of the Lawrence family, whose deep roots in agriculture and commitment to the same core values of fine winemaking made it a perfect match. The wines are made with an unwavering commitment to quality from organically farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit, and a commitment to the sustainability of Napa Valley. Our prized estate vineyards are planted in six of Napa Valley’s sub-appellations: Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, Oak Knoll District, and Calistoga, giving us an incredible breadth of diversity in terroir and allowing us to craft wines that are a pure representation of place. Their roots keep us grounded to the entirety of Napa Valley and at the same time, keep us mindful of our responsibility to maintain a sustainable environment. We are proud to be a leader in agricultural stewardship as 100% of our vineyards are certified CCOF organic. Here at Heitz Cellar, we cherish our history and legacy with a full commitment to our vision and goals to maintain the winery’s heritage."

93 “Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon swans out of the glass with gregarious scents of black cherries, cassis, and blackberry pie plus nuances of incense and camphor. The medium to full-bodied palate is expressive and juicy, with a plush texture and oodles of freshness, finishing with a minty lift.” – The Wine Independent

93 “A reserved, streamlined version, with fine-grained cedar and savory threads running through a core of gently mulled cherry, fresh damson plum and red currant coulis notes. There's pretty perfume on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2035.” – Wine Spectator

91 “Yes, it is still possible to get a balanced, cellar-worthy Napa Cab for under a hundred. Heitz's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon accents just-ripe cherries with scents of dried herbs and mint, then offers a medium to full-bodied sensation on the palate, marked by gentle tannins. Ripe and fairly forward, with a softly dusty finish, this can be consumed young, or any time over the next decade or more.” – Wine Advocate

91 “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a pretty rich wine for Heitz. Dark fruit, spice, leather and chocolate are all dialed up in this juicy, succulent Cabernet. The 2019 is a wine of transition at Heitz. It is the first vintage in which a part of the wine was aged in casks (new at the time), which left some uncharacteristic wood notes in the wine that show up in its racy personality. There's certainly plenty to like.” – Vinous
