Jim Murray’s Whiskey Bible awards this 95 out of 100.
Aged in ex-Bourbon barrels, each bottled lot of Vatted Scotch Malt Scotch 15 Years Old contains no more than 10 separate casks, with at least one cask drawn per region from a total of 5 regions as well as the sub-category of Island. The youngest barrel here is 15 years old, but the average age of these single-cask malts is 18, with the oldest having aged 20 years. There’s no caramel added to these whiskies, and a slight haze is natural: to protect the uniqueness and character of each bottled lot, independent distiller and artisan Jeffrey Topping doesn't chill-filter.
This wonderfully character-driven Scotch Malt Whisky bottling is an interpretation of Topping’s profound early experiences nosing and tasting individual casks at Bladnoch while attending Distillation School in 2002.
“Our philosophy is simple, Scotch Whisky that tastes like Scotch Whisky. No caramel finishes, watered down proof strengths, or chill filtration. Just the simple enjoyment of hand crafted Scotch Malt Whisky bottled as Single Casks, Single Malts, or Vatted Malts in the traditional Scottish methods.”
